Food, in its organic natural form can keep your skin radiant. Not only can the right food contribute to a youthful glow, it is a sustaining natural skin remedy, unlike some topical cosmetic products with only temporary effects. Ideally food benefits both your skin and taste buds. Here is a sampling of a natural skin food feast:
Berries: Strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries. All of these are as rich as queens in antioxidants. Berries neutralize free radicals that cause premature aging and wrinkle formation. Choose organic varieties from your supermarket, farmer’s market or backyard to ensure the quality of the berries’ nutrition. Pesticides and other toxic compounds have no business being in your body.
Green tea: The antioxidant rich brethren of berries, green tea also has anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation leads to swelling of your tissues and consequently the skin. When this inflammation subsides what you are left with is skin which has lost some of its elasticity. Retain the elasticity and the youthfulness naturally by drinking green tea.
Nuts: Nuts, like brazil nuts and walnuts, are high in “good fat”, minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin E, a potent antioxidant. Nuts are especially high in the minerals selenium and zinc, which help in the maintenance of elastin and collagen levels in your skin. These molecules are responsible for the elasticity and firmness of your skin.
Salmon: Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, present in salmon, help moisturize and beautify your skin by strengthening your skin cell membranes, thus effectively restraining entry of harmful substances. Salmon is a top recommendation of leading dermatologist Dr. Perricone. For those who dislike fish, essential fatty acid supplements are a good alternative.
Carrots: Rich in Beta-carotene and Vitamin C, carrots are any skin specialist’s idea of an ideal food. Beta-carotene is converted to Vitamin A in your body. Vitamin A helps skin cell development and its’ deficiency leads to dry skin, ack! The C in carrots acts as an antioxidant and also induces collagen production. With so many benefits, carrots are a super snack to add to any skin care regime.
By no means is this list the extent of what nature has to offer. It is just a start towards youthful and healthier skin. Incorporate these foods regularly in your food habits and notice the positive effects of these delicious and natural skin remedies.
