5 Natural Eyelash Enhancing Serums

natural eyelash enhancing serumEveryone knows that the longer your eyelashes, the more beautiful your eyes appear. So we load up on the mascara. The thicker, the better and even use mascara on no makeup days. Unfortunately most mascaras are laden with chemicals causing dryness and eyelash fallout. You can get your gorgeous lashes back with natural eyelash enhancing serums that truly work to strengthen, repair and regrow your lashes.

But first, did you know that most of the mascaras on the market contain chemicals? Some chemicals found in your mascara include:

  • Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, and Propylparaben.
  • Thimerosal
  • Synthetic Dyes
  • Coal Tar Dyes
  • Aluminum Powder
  • Retinyl Acetate (Vitamin A Acetate)
  • Formaldehyde
  • Imidazolidinyl Urea

These chemicals will dry out your lashes and cause lashes to fall out and become sparse. There are other things that cause eyelash fallout including going to bed with mascara on, using falsies, lash extensions, eyelash curlers and even some disorders such as alopecia and thyroid conditions.

How do you strengthen and enhance your eyelashes after years of abuse?

  • Stop using chemical laden mascaras, especially get rid of your waterproof mascara (it’s like plastic wrap for eyelashes)
  • Wash your mascara off before bed. When mascara is left on too long, particles of your mascara will clog the hair follicle preventing it from breathing and can eventually stop hair growth over time.
  • Using coconut oil can remove mascara quickly and naturally
  • Stop with the lash extensions!

Natural Oil Cleansing Method

cleansing_smaller-1Even the simplest skincare routine needs an effective cleanser. Makeup, dead skin cells, sebum and just the daily dust and grime all accumulate on our skin during the day. With green cleansing, you get rid of this guck using products without harsh detergents, preservatives, fragrance or enhancers.

There are several chemicals to avoid in our daily beauty products and most cleansers are not an exception. Many non-foaming cleansers contain mineral oil, a hormone disrupting stearic acid and drying propylene glycol. Foaming cleansers rely on sodium laureth sulfate to create the suds that we have been conditioned to associate with clean.

Forget the skin typing marketing ploy. Pay attention to your skin’s need, experiment a little and choose a cleansing method which works for you. If you are starting your natural beauty journey or just looking for a change, try any of the methods below to clean and nourish your skin.

Try a natural oil cleansing method. Cleaning your face with oil might seem counter productive. Surely adding oil to your face will make you break out? Nope. Oil cleansers are gentler to the skin and will not aggravate acne. Like dissolves like and since most of the grime that collects on your face during the day is oil based (makeup, sebum etc), oil will help loosen this dirt.  Always use high quality oils which are organic and cold pressed. There are a number of oils to choose from. If your skin is feeling dry, try avocado or apricot kernel oil. Jojoba oil is a great for all skin types as well as sweet almond and grapeseed oil. Add a few drops of something special like argan oil or peppermint and rose essential oils. Experiment with different oils and combinations and find the best one for your skin.

Oil cleansing is simple. First, rinse your face with warm water. Then, massage a small amount of oil onto your skin with a circular motion and upward strokes around your neck. Be extra gentle around your eyes. Soak your washcloth in warm or hot water and lay on your face. Leave it for about 20 seconds, then wipe the oil away.

The double cleansing method adds an additional step. Massage a cleansing cream, gel, oil or organic plant bar soap into your skin after your oil cleansing. Splash your skin with cool water to close pores.

Both methods will leave your skin feeling soft and moisturized.

Make your own cleansers. You can tailor the formulations to your needs.  Most recipes require only three or four ingredients and a few minutes to complete. If you want a foaming cleanser, start with water and a liquid castile soap base. Then add your favorite natural oils like jojoba or sweet almond oil Add a few drop of essential oils such as lavender and rosemary or tea tree oil if you are acne prone. Place in a foaming dispenser and start cleansing. Experiment with other ingredients like raw honey and aloe vera gel  to help calm the skin.

If you are not interested in making your own products, there are several natural products you can online and in stores. Look for brands like Trevarno, NUXE and Bareskin Beauty.

Natural Anti Aging Night Cream With Retinol

night cream with retinolThe most effective moisturizer you can use to prevent and diminish the effects of aging should contain retinol. That ingredient, combined with hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E creates a powerhouse of a night cream that’s absorbed quickly and will work to moisturize your skin while you sleep.

Each of these ingredients performs a certain job to keep your skin youthful looking. Retinol is a form of Vitamin A and aids in skin regeneration by encouraging the production and health of collagen cells which hold the skin together. Retinols are worth researching not only because they are widely available but because of their proven ability in clinical tests to tighten pores, prevent and reverse UVA/B damage, reduce wrinkles, increase blood flow in skin, fight acne, increase cell turnover, boost your collagen and even skin tone.

Retinols are not as effective as retinoids (these you can only purchase with a prescription) however many people find retinoids to be too harsh for their skin type.

Stay clear of over the counter products that claim to have “age defying” retinoid effects that often say “Vitamin A” in the ingredients list. These products have retinyl palmitate in them which is weaker than retinol. Unfortunately every time you use the product, you weaken the effect because it takes 3 conversions before you have retinoic acid and each time you add a conversion it lessens the concentration. Not going to kill you but certainly a waste of money.

Another ingredient of an effective night cream is hyaluronic acid. This component is found naturally in the human body and acts as a lubricant to the joints by cushioning them as they move. It’s also used in pure form for cuts and abrasions to skin.

Vitamin B5 – also called pantothenate acid — may not be a familiar B vitamin, but it’s found readily in cells and defined as a coenzyme (CoA), imperative to the effectiveness of the moisturizer to cause the correct chemical actions during the moisturizing process.

It’s fortunate that today, you can get this complete anti-aging formula in an anti-aging night cream in OZ Natural’s BEST Retinol Moisturizer Night Cream. It contains all the above ingredients (retinol, hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E) to bring you one of the most effective night cream’s on the market today.

I have been a fan and written about hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E for years. Retinol, not so much. There are stories all over the internet about retinols being too harsh, causing burning and redness; I just avoided them completely. I am now a huge fan. If you do your research and find one that works with your individual skin type, the results can be amazing.

This night cream is formulated to be used with OZ’s 20% Vitamin C serum moisturizer and using both together can act as a potent formula to diminish the signs of aging on your skin.

OZ products are completely organic and animal-cruelty-free and contain the vegan retinol formula which can be used on all skin types. No fillers, fragrances, sulfates, parabens or dyes are used in OZ’s state of the art facility which is registered with the FDA.

After using the OZ night cream with the daytime OZ moisturizer, you’ll likely notice that your daily makeup beauty products can be applied much smoother than before and your skin tone appears more even – your pores reduced in size.

You may want to check out other OZ products. You can be sure of the quality – and they’re so inexpensive you can try them out without breaking the budget. Plus, OZ guarantees their beauty products with 100% money-back guarantee.

So, you have nothing to lose and can gain a more youthful appearance by using this and other OZ products for your beauty regimen.

Love This Frankincense Myrrh Body Butter

frankincense myrrh body butter

I first learned about frankincense and myrrh essential oils and their healing properties while watching “The Truth About Cancer,” a weekend binge of 9 episodes. While I am not completely convinced that natural remedies will cure cancer, I am convinced that all natural skin care and beauty products along with a healthy diet of mainly fruits and vegetables will reduce your risk of all illness, including cancer.

I said this several years ago when I started this blog: “Why use chemical laden skin care products that may cause cancer when you have other options?” Why take that chance? Fast forward to 2016 and there are thousands of women not only switching to an all natural lifestyle but actually making and even producing their own body lotions, shampoos, lip balms, face creams, and even toothpaste! Using an all natural base of shea butter or coconut oil and adding essential oils with healing properties can produce wonderful smelling, effective body lotions and body butters.

After learning about the benefits of adding frankincense and myrrh to ones beauty regimen (Dr. Josh Axe dedicates an entire page on his website to frankincense oil and cancer), I started my own research.

According to researchers out of Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, the potential cancer-killing properties of frankincense are due in part to it regulating cellular epigenetic machinery, which highlights its ability to influence genes to promote healing.

Just some of the benefits of frankincense oil

• Reduces inflammation
• Cancer-fighting properties
• Spiritual awareness
• Boosts immunity
• Fights infections
• Improves anxiety
• Heals skin and reduces acne and scarring
• Promotes urination to purify the body and reduce bloating
• Regulates production of estrogen
• Relieves body pain

I’m in!

Immediately upon learning about this miracle oil, the hunt was on. Hours later, I learned that a combination of frankincense oil and myrrh oil can have even more benefits. Both are gum resins extracted from shrub like trees of the same plant family which grow in parts of Asia and Africa and have been used since ancient times for their healing properties as both have similar healing characteristics.

Some of the proven benefits of Myrrh oil

• Aids in digestion
• Fades scars
• Disinfects wounds
• Heals eczema
• Potent antioxidant
• Anti cancer benefits
• Relaxation
• Strengthens gums

Now I know many of you will be interested in making your own Frankincense and myrrh body lotion so here is the recipe from

Homemade Frankincense Myrrh Body Lotion Recipe

Lo and behold I found the perfect whipped body butter with frankincense and myrrh made by Red Lips Studio Bath & Body. Not only does it smell incredible, but my skin stays moisturized throughout the entire day!

Every batch is made to order and expires at 6 months. The ingredients include Shea butter, coconut oil, essential oils, olive oil, vitamin E, and natural preservatives. Anti-Aging Supplements With Science Backing Them

Image for Xtend-Life - omega3I am a big advocate of feeding the skin from within and I take at least 6 vitamins daily. In addition to a mindful diet of mostly fruits and vegetables, there are several anti-aging supplements that have gotten my full attention because they have studies backing up the fact that they help reduce the effects of aging on your body – and mind.

For example, PLE (Polypodium Leucotomos Extract) has been proven to protect your delicate skin from discoloration, sagging and sun damage. The extract is derived from a Central American fern and is said to increase the dose of radiation from the sun that it takes to burn your skin.

Studies are now being performed about the possibility that PLE may prevent skin cancer. Vitamin C is another supplement which has been proven to prevent wrinkles and help your skin glow by decreasing stress in cells – helping them grow and produce naturally. The cells are more apt to regenerate and make your skin vibrant and healthy.

Coenzyme Q10 also protects against wrinkling of the skin and helps your internal health and well-being. It’s an antioxidant that reduces cellular damage that the environment and a poor diet can cause and helps promote new cell growth. Antioxidants like CoQ10 bind to free radicals in the body, allowing them to be safely eliminated from the body. This action allows CoQ10 to help defy the visible effects of aging.

Another supplement that can help you remain young both inside and out is Vitamin E. Scientists have proven that it helps prevent sun damage and can make your skin appear more youthful. The skin regeneration it causes can also help your dead skin slough off.

Glucosamine has been proven to combat sagging and wrinkling skin – actually reducing wrinkles and lines by 34% in studies performed with the supplement. It’s been called a “building block for skin-plumping hyaluronic acid.” Regular use of glucosamine, chondroitin, or fish oil supplements reduces high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) by 16% to 22%, a marker of inflammation, according to a new study. Inflammation reduction should be targeted because inflammation is known to influence the degradation of collagan, elastin and HA which are the 3 main skin constituents.

In the end, the grocery store may be the answer to maintaining great skin. Oily fish, nuts and leafy green vegetables are high in fatty acids and protein, both crucial nutrients needed to help stimulate the production of healthy skin. Try adding Omega 3 Fish Oil to your supplement regimen. Choose one containing antioxidants such as astaxanthin and lycopene, naturally occurring sun protectors that not only protect the skin but also restore skin that has been damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Many supplements are designed to help you prevent aging from the inside out. If you’re not getting the proper diet and live with harmful environmental factors such as pollution and lots of sun, you may need certain supplements which have been proven to help with the situation.

For example, research shows that your body needs coenzyme Q10 to keep functioning properly. Because this supplement decreases with age, it’s vitally important to maintain the proper levels as you age by taking supplements.

It’s important that you take the proper dosage of any supplement. Consult with your doctor if you’re unsure about how much or which ones to take. Discuss your lifestyle with him or her and together, you can come up with a common sense approach about which and how many supplements you should take.

Anti-aging supplements really can keep you feeling and looking young. Study them carefully and choose which ones are right for you.

The Fix For Droopy Eyelids-This Cream Works

droopy eyelids botoxOver the last few years, I have been experimenting with botox. Yes, me, the natural skin care advocate and blogger gave in to the desire for a quick wrinkle fix and for years it worked wonders. That is until my family purchased a groupon for me as a gift to a local eye center. The results were nothing short of devastating. The next morning I woke up to severely droopy eyelids!

I never in a million years thought I would get Botox. I have great skin for my age; people often think I am 15 years younger than my actual age. I had only one problem. A deep crease between my eyebrows that had me going crazy. I am not talking about horizontal forehead wrinkles but a deep vertical line between the brows. Botox was the answer. It worked wonders.

Basically, Botox placed in the right areas of your forehead immobilize the muscles surrounding them giving them a smooth look. Unfortunately the maintenance can be expensive as the results are only temporary and you will need to get it done every 3-4 months.

Anyhow, I expected the same experience I had in the past when I entered a local eye center. I also believed I would be getting services through a qualified doctor. Unfortunately this doctor administered the Botox incorrectly hence my droopy eyelids.

I was shocked to say the least. My husband tried to comfort me by saying it was only because I just woke up but in the end the droopy eyelids remained. I thought for sure I was now going to have eyelid surgery. After much research here is what I found out after the fact:

According to Jessica J. Krant, MD, MPH, “The people with the deepest forehead lines use their frontalis forehead muscle the most to keep the brows up while talking and often to help them see. Trying too hard to smooth all of the lines out can weaken the muscle so much that you might end up with a flat forehead and drooping brows.”

She recommends trying first to support the brows from underneath with a Botox or Dysport “brow lift”, which can have a secondary effect of allowing the frontalis to relax, creating fewer wrinkles there naturally, while not causing any downward pressure on the eyebrows. After this kicks in for a few weeks, a lower number of strategically placed units can be lightly scattered in the forehead to soften without weighing down.

Obviously the doctor placed injections in the wrong areas of my forehead (I didn’t have horizontal wrinkles) and I now lived to find a droopy eyelid cream! Even though research said my eyelids would eventually get back to normal after several months, I was not willing to wait.

Just when I thought it was impossible, I read reviews about Dr. Perricone Acyl-Glutathione Eye Lid Serum. The reviews were fantastic so I shelled out the $120. It was a great decision; within 2 weeks, my droopy eyelids disappeared. No more sagging! This is truly a miracle worker.

While most eyelid creams and serums are not suppose to be applied directly to the eyelid, this miracle serum is. It dramatically improves the visible signs of aging along the upper eye lid area to deliver a youthful, more wide-eyed appearance.

It dramatically tightens and firms droopy eyelids, smooths crepiness and minimizes dark circles. It is lightweight and absorbs quickly making it ideal for use under makeup for a smooth application.

It is without a doubt the only serum I will never ever live without.

DIY Beauty Treatments Using Tea

pukka cleanse teaWhy Tea For Skin Health

Tea’s natural antioxidant and astringent properties make it a great addition to your natural beauty regimen. We all know that sipping tea on a daily basis imparts numerous health benefits. The anti oxidants, vitamins, minerals, flavinols and tannins found in tea, smooth, soothe, and detoxify when used topically.

Rooibos tea is high in antioxidant flavonoids that are anti inflammatory and fight wrinkles. It also increases blood levels of the enzyme superoxide dismutase, essential in the production of healthy skin cells. Rooibos also has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that benefit acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Drinking rose petal tea may give you a more radiant complexion. Rose petals are a ntarul source of antioxidant vitamin C and can fend off damage from toxins and free radicals that can age skin. Vitamin C also encourages collagen production.
