No matter how old we get, we always want to look younger. We are constantly looking for the next wonder product that will help us get rid of those nasty wrinkles, sags and bags. We see people every day who are in their forties who could easily pass for someone in their twenties and we all want to be that person. How to look younger…..are you really and truly trying?
Many people will argue that some people have the “good skin gene” just as my sister claims to have the “fat gene.” Fortunately, most studies show that genetics play a smaller role in aging than originally thought. Good news for us as we now know that we can definitely take control over our appearance and slow the aging process. Most times looking younger is about changing your lifestyle and that may require a bit of self control.
Smoking and drinking excessively has a huge impact on your appearance and it gets more noticeable as you age. Most of us can tell when a person is a heavy smoker or drinker just by looking at their face. If you are serious about looking younger, quit this habit as soon as possible. If you smoke, you are two to three times more likely to have moderate to severe wrinkles at age forty than a nonsmoker.
How to look younger with exercise:
If you don’t exercise, you can’t even begin to imagine how it will change your looks. I consider myself an active person, and never really had to “exercise” until I reached the ripe old age of forty. For four years, I steadily gained weight until I had 10 extra pounds…in my midsection!
Last year, I met someone who happens to teach classes at a local gym and she convinced me to give it a try. I can’t believe what I was missing out on! Increased energy every day (I know many of you must take afternoon naps…I was there), a seven pound weight loss in only 3 weeks, I have a better body than I had in my twenties and most importantly, at 46 years old, my skin looks better than it has in years. I am not a gym freak; I go twice a week in general.
How to look younger by changing your diet:
A change in your diet is another factor in slowing the aging process. Eating processed foods with little important nutrients is killing your body and in turn killing your skin. It will lose collagen, begin to sag, and develop wrinkles. Change your diet to include more fresh fruits and vegetables, start taking supplements, stop drinking soda and get rid of your sugar addiction. You will sleep like a baby, have energy all day and your skin will look gorgeous. I promise
Use skin care products that dont cause even more damage:
Many women, who have taken care of their bodies from the inside since youth, hardly need any skin care products. That’s the power of exercise and nutrition. Unfortunately, most of us never gave much thought to our health until now. So for those of us who need it, using the right skin care products can certainly make a difference.
Make sure your skin care is safe and does not contain toxic ingredients that can actually worsen your wrinkles and sags. Pesticides, fragrance and parabens, contained in most skin care products, have potential health dangers when used long term. Switch over to all natural or organic products. They are often times less expensive and more effective than the most expensive products on the market. It may be hard to believe that plain packaging, non-advertised, less expensive skin care products work far better.
Take care of your body and it will reflect on your skin. Oh and….. get some sun!
