The more I dig, the more I find. Awesome safe cosmetics that is. It seems to be never ending; there are times when I get sucked in for an entire day or two researching what I find. You could say (and I think I have said this before) that I am addicted. It’s exciting to find those products that not many people know about……natural skin products and natural cosmetics that everyone can’t help but love.
It’s also exciting to know that the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics is making great strides to bring awareness to dangerous chemical ingredients in our beauty care products by enlisting companies to take the Compact For Safe Cosmetics pledge to make safer products.
This year 322 beauty care companies have earned the title of “Champion” and you can find the list here. Keep in mind that there are many more companies offering products without these chemicals and have been for years, however not affiliated with this movement.
CBS News reports a coalition of about 150 groups worked with these companies to get them to remove substances banned by health authorities in other countries, particularly chemicals linked to cancer and birth defects and preservatives that release formaldehyde, which can cause cancer as well as burn the eyes, nose and throat. The coalition also pushed for companies to list all ingredients in their products, which many companies don’t do.
It’s not over however. Big companies like Johnson & Johnson while removing dangerous chemicals from baby products, have not done so with adult products and most big companies still use ingredients that cause cancer or reproductive harm. Europe has already banned these chemicals. What does that tell us?
Do your part by purchasing from natural skin care companies (a small sampling here), and ban those companies that refuse to remove dangerous chemicals from their products. While signing petitions can help, the biggest reason for any company to change is consumer demand and more and more consumers are saying no to chemical laden skin care products. Bottom line…move your money, and everything will fall in place.
I am proud to be involved in this growing natural beauty care segment; natural cosmetics represent the fastest growing segment of the $50 billion cosmetics industry and for good reason. Safe cosmetics are important for the future health of our children and their families.
