Over the last few years, I have been experimenting with botox. Yes, me, the natural skin care advocate and blogger gave in to the desire for a quick wrinkle fix and for years it worked wonders. That is until my family purchased a groupon for me as a gift to a local eye center. The results were nothing short of devastating. The next morning I woke up to severely droopy eyelids!
I never in a million years thought I would get Botox. I have great skin for my age; people often think I am 15 years younger than my actual age. I had only one problem. A deep crease between my eyebrows that had me going crazy. I am not talking about horizontal forehead wrinkles but a deep vertical line between the brows. Botox was the answer. It worked wonders.
Basically, Botox placed in the right areas of your forehead immobilize the muscles surrounding them giving them a smooth look. Unfortunately the maintenance can be expensive as the results are only temporary and you will need to get it done every 3-4 months.
Anyhow, I expected the same experience I had in the past when I entered a local eye center. I also believed I would be getting services through a qualified doctor. Unfortunately this doctor administered the Botox incorrectly hence my droopy eyelids.
I was shocked to say the least. My husband tried to comfort me by saying it was only because I just woke up but in the end the droopy eyelids remained. I thought for sure I was now going to have eyelid surgery. After much research here is what I found out after the fact:
According to Jessica J. Krant, MD, MPH, “The people with the deepest forehead lines use their frontalis forehead muscle the most to keep the brows up while talking and often to help them see. Trying too hard to smooth all of the lines out can weaken the muscle so much that you might end up with a flat forehead and drooping brows.”
She recommends trying first to support the brows from underneath with a Botox or Dysport “brow lift”, which can have a secondary effect of allowing the frontalis to relax, creating fewer wrinkles there naturally, while not causing any downward pressure on the eyebrows. After this kicks in for a few weeks, a lower number of strategically placed units can be lightly scattered in the forehead to soften without weighing down.
Obviously the doctor placed injections in the wrong areas of my forehead (I didn’t have horizontal wrinkles) and I now lived to find a droopy eyelid cream! Even though research said my eyelids would eventually get back to normal after several months, I was not willing to wait.
Just when I thought it was impossible, I read reviews about Dr. Perricone Acyl-Glutathione Eye Lid Serum. The reviews were fantastic so I shelled out the $120. It was a great decision; within 2 weeks, my droopy eyelids disappeared. No more sagging! This is truly a miracle worker.
While most eyelid creams and serums are not suppose to be applied directly to the eyelid, this miracle serum is. It dramatically improves the visible signs of aging along the upper eye lid area to deliver a youthful, more wide-eyed appearance.
It dramatically tightens and firms droopy eyelids, smooths crepiness and minimizes dark circles. It is lightweight and absorbs quickly making it ideal for use under makeup for a smooth application.
It is without a doubt the only serum I will never ever live without.
