The Fix For Droopy Eyelids-This Cream Works

droopy eyelids botoxOver the last few years, I have been experimenting with botox. Yes, me, the natural skin care advocate and blogger gave in to the desire for a quick wrinkle fix and for years it worked wonders. That is until my family purchased a groupon for me as a gift to a local eye center. The results were nothing short of devastating. The next morning I woke up to severely droopy eyelids!

I never in a million years thought I would get Botox. I have great skin for my age; people often think I am 15 years younger than my actual age. I had only one problem. A deep crease between my eyebrows that had me going crazy. I am not talking about horizontal forehead wrinkles but a deep vertical line between the brows. Botox was the answer. It worked wonders.

Basically, Botox placed in the right areas of your forehead immobilize the muscles surrounding them giving them a smooth look. Unfortunately the maintenance can be expensive as the results are only temporary and you will need to get it done every 3-4 months.

Anyhow, I expected the same experience I had in the past when I entered a local eye center. I also believed I would be getting services through a qualified doctor. Unfortunately this doctor administered the Botox incorrectly hence my droopy eyelids.

I was shocked to say the least. My husband tried to comfort me by saying it was only because I just woke up but in the end the droopy eyelids remained. I thought for sure I was now going to have eyelid surgery. After much research here is what I found out after the fact:

According to Jessica J. Krant, MD, MPH, “The people with the deepest forehead lines use their frontalis forehead muscle the most to keep the brows up while talking and often to help them see. Trying too hard to smooth all of the lines out can weaken the muscle so much that you might end up with a flat forehead and drooping brows.”

She recommends trying first to support the brows from underneath with a Botox or Dysport “brow lift”, which can have a secondary effect of allowing the frontalis to relax, creating fewer wrinkles there naturally, while not causing any downward pressure on the eyebrows. After this kicks in for a few weeks, a lower number of strategically placed units can be lightly scattered in the forehead to soften without weighing down.

Obviously the doctor placed injections in the wrong areas of my forehead (I didn’t have horizontal wrinkles) and I now lived to find a droopy eyelid cream! Even though research said my eyelids would eventually get back to normal after several months, I was not willing to wait.

Just when I thought it was impossible, I read reviews about Dr. Perricone Acyl-Glutathione Eye Lid Serum. The reviews were fantastic so I shelled out the $120. It was a great decision; within 2 weeks, my droopy eyelids disappeared. No more sagging! This is truly a miracle worker.

While most eyelid creams and serums are not suppose to be applied directly to the eyelid, this miracle serum is. It dramatically improves the visible signs of aging along the upper eye lid area to deliver a youthful, more wide-eyed appearance.

It dramatically tightens and firms droopy eyelids, smooths crepiness and minimizes dark circles. It is lightweight and absorbs quickly making it ideal for use under makeup for a smooth application.

It is without a doubt the only serum I will never ever live without.

Best Skin Care Products For Aging Skin- 3 Proven Ingredients

vitamin b3 skin cream

We are always searching for the best skin care products for aging skin and unfortunately for us, there are hundreds upon hundreds of products to choose from.

The best way that I have been able to find the most effective products is by first researching ingredients. I start with ingredient research and then look for natural skin care products with those ingredients.

I love discovering new natural ingredients that turn back time. I especially love to learn about anti aging ingredients that are backed by science. Sometimes I may be a bit behind. For example, I just read a journal regarding “skin anti aging strategies” posted at The National Center for Biotechnology Information written back in 2012.

I happened upon this article while researching niacinimide, or vitamin B3, which is said to improve skin elasticity. Why was I researching skin elasticity? While my female ancestors live to be close to 100 years and seriously have very few deep wrinkles (comparatively speaking), they all have jowls; jowls that I have inherited just recently. Seems as though they just appeared one day and I am determined to find a cure. (insert laugh here)

From the article:

“It is the intention of this article to review the most important anti-aging strategies that dermatologists have nowadays in hand, including preventive measurements, cosmetological strategies, topical and systemic therapeutic agents and invasive procedures.”

It refers to some of the most effective natural ingredients or topical agents with anti-aging properties such as vitamin C, B3, and E. They are the most important antioxidants because of their ability to penetrate the skin through their small molecular weight.

Vitamin C, B3, and E are the most important antioxidants because of their small molecular weight. Clinical studies have proven that the antioxidative protection is higher with the combination of vitamins C and E than with either vitamin alone. Look for skin care products with a combination of these 2 vitamins.

Niacinimide (vitamin B3) regulates cell metabolism and regeneration and is used in 5% concentration as an anti-aging agent. In some studies, improvement of skin elasticity and pigmentations after 3 months of a topical treatment have been observed. On to natural skin care products for aging skin that contain a combination of these ingredients….

The Best Natural Hair Masks For Splits Ends And Frizzy Hair

Split ends and frizzy hair is one of the most common problems that women face today especially during the summer time because of the humidity. And summer is just around the corner! However, there are natural effective ways to fight frizz and dryness with natural hair care recipes. Homemade hair care is becoming very popular and for good reason.

Shampooing your hair too much or blow drying it a lot makes your hair lose its natural oils. Also a lack of minerals and vitamins in your diet can adversely affect the health of your hair. Treating your hair badly is when you put your hair up while it is still wet, wearing your hair up most of the time and pulling or tugging on the hair. Treating your hair badly is also not letting your hair relax, using a lot of chemical products on your hair, combing or brushing your hair while it is still wet or drying your hair with a towel that is so hard it makes your hair tired and unhealthy. So what is the solution?

First of all please stay away from all chemical products telling you it’s what you need to get rid of frizz or dryness in your hair. These products cover your hair with foam for few hours giving it the illusion of looking good for a while but it will go back to what it was and be even worse. Here are some natural hair remedies from The Beauty Of Food ebook that can help:

  • Massage your scalp with sesame oil and then wrap it with a cloth before going to sleep. Wash your hair in the morning with a herb shampoo and then rinse with about 20 spoons of vinegar added to a liter of warm, not hot water.
  • Bananas and sesame oil: Combine one banana with one spoon of sesame oil, one spoon of honey and mix them all together. Apply the mixture to your hair and leave it for at least half an hour. Now finish this procedure by washing your hair in warm not cold water.
  • Mix some hair conditioner with a spoon of olive oil and a spoon of plain yogurt and then apply it to your hair before taking a shower. Wait half an hour before washing the mask off and you will notice the difference.
  • Add the yolk of one egg to one spoon of plain non-fat yogurt, a spoon of mayonnaise, a spoon of olive oil and last a spoon of honey. Mix it all together then apply this to your hair and leave for at least 2 hours. After waiting the two hours you can then rinse it off.
  • Apply 2-4 egg whites, depending on the hair length and thickness by using a brush and working it to the ends of your hair. Apply what’s left over to the rest of your hair and massage your scalp. Leave this on your hair for about half an hour. Now you can put your hair up and cover it with a plastic bag. Keep your hair like this for an hour and then take off the plastic bag. Let your hair down until the egg white dries. This may take another hour depending on the length and thickness of your hair. Then you can wash your hair with warm water and feel free to use shampoo and conditioner.

Hair Care Recipes For Preventing Hair Loss

  • Mix 2 egg yolks with some olive oil and then put it on your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and place a wet warm towel on top of it. Leave this for half an hour to an hour. Then you can wash your hair with warm water and feel free to use your shampoo. Repeat this process at least twice a week over a two month period.
  • Mix Castor oil with almond oil in even quantities and put it on your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and leave this for half an hour. Then you can wash your hair with warm water or feel free to use shampoo.
  • Garlic oil helps prevent hair loss and makes your hair strong. Put garlic oil on your hair and massage your scalp well for few minutes. Leave this on for 20 minutes and use this mask once a week.

For Fighting Dandruff

  • Apply some vinegar mixed with a little bit of oil olive to your hair. Let this dry for a few minutes and then wash as usual. Repeat this process until the dandruff disappears. Using vinegar on your hair will make it darker, especially in winter.

For Shiny Hair

  • You can apply olive oil to your hair 2 hours before taking a shower or a bath. This will give your hair a shining and healthy look.

DIY Beauty Treatments Using Tea

pukka cleanse teaWhy Tea For Skin Health

Tea’s natural antioxidant and astringent properties make it a great addition to your natural beauty regimen. We all know that sipping tea on a daily basis imparts numerous health benefits. The anti oxidants, vitamins, minerals, flavinols and tannins found in tea, smooth, soothe, and detoxify when used topically.

Rooibos tea is high in antioxidant flavonoids that are anti inflammatory and fight wrinkles. It also increases blood levels of the enzyme superoxide dismutase, essential in the production of healthy skin cells. Rooibos also has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that benefit acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Drinking rose petal tea may give you a more radiant complexion. Rose petals are a ntarul source of antioxidant vitamin C and can fend off damage from toxins and free radicals that can age skin. Vitamin C also encourages collagen production.

Nettle and dandelion tea help cleanse the liver and stimulate circulation. Both contain high levels of free radical quenching antioxidants.

6 Best Natural Baby Lotions With The Least Amount Of Toxins

natural baby lotionsFor the last several years, I have been talking about the chemicals in our beauty care products and the importance of checking ingredients.

Here are 20 toxic ingredients to avoid when buying beauty care products. Unfortunately there are hundreds of popular brands on the market including baby brands that we have trusted forever that are loaded with ingredients known to cause contact dermatitis, to inhibit skin cell growth, and damage cell membranes; and cause skin rashes, dry skin and surface damage.

Ammonium lureth sulfate for example, found in most beauty products because of its foaming quality, strips the top layers of skin of moisture. Anyone with sensitive skin or disorders such as acne and eczema will see an immediate outbreak.

So, if these chemical laden products cause some of these skin disorders, just think of what they are doing to our babies skin. It would seem obvious that a babies skin is thinner and more absorbent than the skin of adults. There is no doubt also, that because their bodies and immune systems are still developing, babies and children are more vulnerable to toxins.

Don’t use baby care products or lotions that have toxic chemicals in them. Eczema, allergies, rashes, and skin sensitivities have risen dramatically since the introduction of baby personal care products. Take a look at the ingredients on some of the most popular baby care products. We clearly must scrutinize this group of products.

Lucky for us, times are a changing and there are many organic and natural baby care products popping up everywhere. In addition to new natural baby skin care products, many brands that our parents and grandparents swore by are now changing their formulas eliminating toxic chemicals. They have no choice-the demand is growing quickly.

I have read hundreds of reviews on baby products without toxic chemicals and most of them always come back to one thing……no more baby eczema and no more baby skin rashes.

6 Natural Beauty Subscription Boxes Under $25

beauty sample subscription box

So we’ve all heard of sample beauty subscription boxes (I seriously did not know about these until a few months ago). Right? Me, a beauty care product addict. How did I miss this? It’s a huge business and when I found out about these awesome monthly boxes, I did some research. Did you know that there are a ton of beauty bloggers talking about the best subscription boxes? Did you know that there are hundreds of hours of videos on You Tube about the beauty box wars? Believe me, I watched them all.

Just in case you’re in the dark like I was; what are subscription boxes?

Companies send you monthly samples for a preset monthly cost, you try them, you like the products, you go to the website to buy them, it’s a win, win. You can get sample subscription boxes for just about anything from skin care and baby to food, wine, crafting and yes, even dog treats! Click here to see them all. You can pick the best subscriptions boxes for you. Beware the addiction.

Which beauty box is for me?

After deciding I have to get some of these boxes, I figured there must be some natural beauty boxes out there right? There are! But I am sure you all knew that. While you can find videos out there about every beauty box if you have the time, (it’s extremely addicting and extremely painful watching these women take 15 minutes to show you the box and unwrap the box), I am just going to list the best natural monthly boxes under $25, because for me, it always comes down to cost.

All of the following natural beauty boxes are under 25 bucks a month. In the end, I probably spend more than 25 bucks on full size products each week that don’t work and end up in the trash. Like I said, a win win.

What I like: you can browse the site and see what the products are for the current month and what they were previous months to get an idea of what you will be receiving.

Brands like soapbox, True Nature, Vapour Organic, Angel Face Botanicals, Zoe Organics, you can be sure you are getting the best all natural skin products to try. $19 per month.

The All Natural Face

A completely vegan company, this company offers a beauty subscription box for $15 a month including shipping. You will receive over $20 worth of products and a bunch of free samples. They mix it up so you are always getting their most fabulous products and new releases.

Didn’t find much too much info on this box; the website is a little tacky (just sayin) but it’s only $15 bucks a month and did I mention products that are completely vegan?

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box

This company offers 2 boxes, the Vegan Cuts Snack Box and the Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. I am only interested in the latter.

Like all beauty sample subscription boxes, this is the easiest way to discover cruelty-free brands without committing to full-size products or prices. Each month you’ll receive a delivery of 4-7 new products to try, ranging from unique cosmetics to luxurious skincare.

$19.95 per month

Here is a video of the January Vegan Cuts Beauty Box (torture)

They include their own products, along with other products that they deem 100% quality and all natural. “If we don’t love it first then we simply don’t use it

What I like: local business and natural products
If you love to take baths and you know what bath truffles are, this would be a great box to try.

Conscious Box

Choose from three curated monthly box options: Classic, Vegan or Gluten-Free
Discover healthier natural choices for your everyday food, home, bath and body items so if you are only interested in natural beauty products, this box is not for you.

Although…. you may be tempted by the fact that a previous box contained a full bottle of Acure Organics Argan Oil and medical grade coconut oil. OMG!

Pictures of previous boxes here.

The site boasts: “Replace every product you use with a conscious alternative!”

Join Kloverbox and every month they will send you the best natural, cruelty-free and organic beauty, health, nutrition and home products. You’ll get to try affordable eco-friendly products, handpicked by health conscious curators, so you can incorporate better products into every aspect of your life.

What I like: cruelty free, vegan, and organic; can’t get any better natural products
For those of you who are interested in other natural stuff like cleaning supplies and nutrition, this might be the ticket.

As low as 22.50 per month

I just signed up for the Goodebox because the products are natural and the monthly subscription is under $20. I won’t be doing a You Tube video (not in a million years), but I will be talking about the products each month so stay tuned.

Did you know there are subscription boxes for natural hair products? Another time maybe.

What are your experiences with all natural beauty subscription boxes?

Natural Skin Care For Teens

good for you girls skin care

We all work hard to raise health conscious, happy, confident, well adjusted daughters and we work hard to keep them safe (my daughter is doing volunteer work in Nicaragua right this minute….good heavens), but most of us don’t concern ourselves with what they are putting on their skin or on their bodies, especially as young teenagers.

I will never forget the years that my daughter was struggling with acne. I could feel for her pain. We eliminated sugar and wheat from her diet, went through many products such as Neutrogena (recommended by a doctor), Murad, Pro Activ of course, and finally a prescription retinoid.

What truly concerned me were the effects of the prescription cream. My daughter has Italian skin, a beautiful dark olive color and after using the cream for a few months, her skin began to thin and turn light. Needless to say, it freaked me out and I made her stop using it.

This was around the time I started researching all natural products and ordered so much product, I can’t even remember what actually helped. I do know however, if I had to raise her all over again, I would start her with all natural skin care for teens and all natural makeup from the moment she became interested, not only to help reduce skin irritations early on, but to eliminate chemicals entering her body that could potentially cause cancer in later years.

Unfortunately natural skin care for teenage girls barely existed then, if at all, until now.

Chemicals in skin care are sometimes the root of all skin irritations. Parabens, fragrance, and bismuth oxychloride, to name just a few, can cause allergic reactions and sensitive skin. Kim, the founder of Good For You Girls, knows this first hand.

As a veteran of the natural products industry Kim was very aware of the controversy of chemical based skin care. Both of her daughters had severe asthma and sensitive skin issues as babies so they never had any options to use anything but the cleanest products.

As her girls became teenagers, she realized that there were no safe products that were age appropriate for them. Girls today are bombarded with beauty products that are loaded with chemicals and synthetic ingredients.

Good For You Girls, specifically for young teens, was born. Free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oil, and synthetic fragrance, Good For You Girls offers your daughters natural skin care that pampers and protects their skin the way mother nature intended.

Along with raising healthy, happy, self confident daughters, help your daughters form healthy habits and a great relationship with their bodies. Helping her find, safe and natural alternatives is not always easy and Good For You Girls is a great place to start!
