flicker 3While poking around in my local pharmacy store recently, I found the following label on a very popular body lotion. The label boasts “incredibly soft skin with jojoba oil and vitamin E.” Sounds yummy. I would love to slather my body with jojoba oil! Sounds like natural skin care to me. Don’t be fooled. Here is the list of ingredients:

Water, myristyl alcohol, glycerin, mineral oil, butylenes glycol, alcohol denat, stearic acid, petrolatum, myristyl myristate, glyceryl stearate, hydrogenated coco-glycerides, dimethicone, simondsia chinensis seed oil (jojoba), tocopheryl  acetate, polygyceryl-2 caprate, Phenoxyethanol, lanolin alcohol, fragrance, sodium hydroxide, methylparaben, ethylparaban, proylparaben, butylparaben, isobutylparaben.

What the heck?? There are three alcohols, five of the nasty parabens (which have the potential to cause cancer), and tocopheryl acetate which is a synthetic vitamin E and not the natural vitamin E.

And what about this popular foaming face wash:

Contains MEA and EDTA, toxic ingredients, PEG, a plasticizing agent that has been shown  to cause cancer in lab animals, Plyquaternium-10 which releases formaldehyde, and DMDM which is a preservative containing formaldehyde. Not so pure skin care.

OK. That’s just a start. I had to leave the store as I was getting nasty looks from the manager. But before I headed for the door, I noticed another product that claims “healing and white tea”. The second ingredient listed, propylene glycol is considered toxic. Believe it or not, when this ingredient arrives at the manufacturing plant, the label on the drum states “AVOID SKIN CONTACT” Say what?

Here’s the deal. Thousands of women have been using these toxic products for years and it may take years for them to build up and cause physical damage. So if you are experiencing skin problems now and seem to have aged ten years or so, the ingredients in your skin products may be the culprit.

Start over with a clean slate, I mean face. Read every label. Ditch the junk products. Stick to natural skin products such as Organic Argan Oil that are all natural. They are becoming increasingly popular, most often not more expensive, and will change your skin and your life.
